well .... that one on the driveway.. looks like it could have some nice friends ....

why is GGhost so close to the house????

the skylands at hidden lakes is 40 or so feet tall.. and 15 to 20 wide ....

being so new to GW.. i am surprised you have been holding out on us.. MORE PIX PLEASE ...

Thanks for the positive thoughts on my choices! Ken GG is so close to the house because I have never seen one of any size, and from what I have read think it's a dwarf, or slower grower? There is about two feet behind it, so if ends up growing more quickly, it will have to be moved or I'll start pinching candles. And how long did it take for skylands to get to that size? Should I move it, or just move the fence, which I want to do anyway!

Keefesn, you have some very beautiful golden colored trees. I LOVE your Abies pinsapo aurea, too bad it is not hardy this far north. I'm inclined to purchase one and place it in a large pot and lug it in and out of my greenhouse. Beautiful!

Thanks for sharing all the photos.

    re:GGhost

look at your leader.. what is that.. 12 to 16 inches of growth ...

that is its MINIMAL annual growth rate.. for the next 50 years ....

that will be a lot of pinching..

    side branches.. what ... 6 to 10 ...

and the annual growth rate will only get larger.. as it gets more 'est'd ..

i suggest you move it.. and the skylands.. this spring..

for me in MI ... it would be as soon as the ground thaws ... prime time would be around 4/1 ... going as late as 5/1 .... with supreme aftercare ...

i am not sure in your zone ...

Here's the one Ken's talking about, for reference.

you know whats really entertaining me.. on the GGHost ...

it was one of my first 6 purchases ...

and i too planted it.. right there next to my garden chair... 3 feet from the cement patio ... and it was my pride and joy for 3 years..

year 4.. it covered 1.5 feet of the patio..

year 5.. 3.5 feet of the patio ...

i tried moving it at 8 feet in fall ..... i think it made it.. only to be hit by a late frost/freeze.. and all the buds died ... bummed me out..

move it soon.. i since learned.. all yellow plants.. prefer a spring move.. to avoid winter desiccation of yellow/white tissue ... i had two of this type.. lose every single needle in winter.. 2 years running after fall transplant ... but the future was in the buds.. and eventually they outgrew the phenom ...
