I have in my collection 1 plant labelled Pinus koraiensis "Winton". But for me, it's a cultivar of Pinus pumila. Pinus pumila "Winton" are more correct for me.
Also, the new name proposed :"Tabuliformis" confirm the form of this cultivar.Form of majority of Pinus pumila cv.

Remember a while back seeing some Pinus pumila in an arboretum that carried "Pinus koraiensis" labels. I don't recollect if they had any cultivar name though.

Hey Plantmarker...Thinking I remember a 'Winton' controversy a while back. Nurseries are describing it two very conflicting ways; as either columnar or broad/flat. Could there be two different cultivars being sold in the US under that name? If so, it seems logical that broad/flat form could be 'Tabuliformis'.
The Winton I obtained is described as columnar...it's only a one gallon so time will tell.

Needles are 2 inches long, Have trouble getting clear close-ups.

Following the rules 'Tabuliformis' would be a pre-1959 name. These older Latin name cultivars may come to be represented by more than one introduction over time. Otherwise the habit of a grafted conifer can be influenced by the position of the budwood on the stock plant (sidebranch vs. lead shoot etc.) and the vigor of the plant it is grafted onto.

Pinus koraiensis 'Winton' is a cross between Pinus koraiensis and Pinus pumila.
It have the needles of Pinus pumila but the typical buds of Pinus koraiensis.

Compare the buds of this Pinus koraiensis 'Dragon Eye' with the buds of Henk's picture of the Pinus koraiensis 'Winton', they are both pointed.

They are not pointed and have another structure.
