Soliciting suggestions 4 a memorial conifer 4 northern New Mexico

My sister died this last fall. She was a teacher. Her last school, in Bernalillo, New Mexico, will be creating an outdoor memorial.

IÃ¢ÂÂd like to contribute some conifers. Bernalillo is north of, and at the same elevation as, Albuquerque. They are nearly mile-high cities, but one doesnÃ¢ÂÂt always realize it as the much higher Sandia mountain is nearby and always in view. ItÃ¢ÂÂs high mountain desert.

Pinus jeffreyi is a high altitude conifer. forestfarm sells real nice seedlings of which I bought one 3-4 years ago (zone 4 - I'm guessing from the southern area of its range).

A difficult climate for conifers - looking around Bernalillo on google earth, I don't see many, just one or two Pinus brutia, which is nice enough but nothing very special.

One of the fastigiate cultivars of Mediterranean Cypress might work, and are much used in cemeteries, so that's one option to try. Arizona Cypress is probably better adapted, though, so might be a better choice.
