what was your watering protocol for the first two years ...

potted or ball and burlap ...

if potted.. severely root bound??

did your chap actually come visit??? .... i am impressed ... good service ...

i dont buy the hemlock gratuitously attacking.. underground.. your new plant.. but i suppose weirder things can happen ..

BTW.. did you amend the hole.. do you have bad clay soil ... etc.. you really havent given us much in regards to its planting culture...

Thanks for your advice. I watered deeply once a week, more often if we had a heat spell. We amended the soil with compost. The root ball was planted with the burlap opened at the top. It is about 6' tall. I do note that the wind is more severe where this is planted (the other Rosebay is sheltered). It also gets direct sun for a few hours.

It's 50-ish today and the leaves are still drooping, alas.
