A friend got seeds from this source and they were not Cathaya as advertised.

At least some of these seeds do look suspiciously similar to Platycladus orientalis seeds. But hard to tell just from a small pic.

My supplier, a nursery man from sichuan, is sure that it is Cathaya. He self has harvestet the seeds. From this source only 3 people got seeds from me till now.
    Any ideas for good germination?

A friend of a friend bought some seeds from this source. He told me, the seedlings look like Amentotaxus. I cannot say more.
Maybe you ask the 3 people you sold seeds. At least one was successful.

    Ok,
I think I will know more if they have sprouted.
If I ask 4 people about seeds I get 4 different answeres.
My supplier is sure that are cathaya seeds.

Can you ask him to send the cones they were extracted from? That would definitely help identify the seeds.

I can send you cuttings to graft.

Resin, you said they should be grafted onto Douglas fir- I guess that would include P. sinensis too? That would be good for me here. It has done well after being planted this summer. It's not the shapliest thing though, still I'm happy I've got it.

Yes but you need to get one of those staked up.

Mine died of root rot (Armillaria) this summer. What a bummer. I will be sore from that loss for some time. Fortunately it did produce one female cone and many male cones and there appear to be viable seeds. Keeping my fingers crossed they germinate.

Thanks blue_yew, I didn't know what I should be doing so left it alone.
salicaceae, so sorry to hear that, and Armillaria is everywhere, it could happen to any of us. Not much you can do about it either.

I found Cathaya argyrophylla seeds on this website. I am afraid that's not real seeds of Cathaya. Somebody tried? is it serious?

Resin is right, the photo displays Platycladus seeds. Cathaya seeds look like Picea seeds.

To get germination, I have had the experience that Cathaya a. seeds need a good long cold period -- about the duration of a winter.

    Wow, thanks for that link.
They have a wicked impressive selection of seeds. (Too bad though that Pseudotaxus, Amentotaxus, and Torreya are all out of stock and expensive.)

I also bought some seeds from that source. Hope they are true cathayas...

I got the best results in germination when using a soil mix based mainly on coconut fiber substrate. I also provide them Previcur with every watering. Advices for keepping them alive are welcome...
