Strange feeling after first conifer purchases

I brought home these two beauties today. Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Aurea' (L) and Pinus densiflora 'Aurea' (R).

I also picked up this little Podocarpus macrophyllus 'Okina' (variegated) from Tom Cox at Cox Arboretum last weekend.

I haven't put anything in the ground yet, but somehow, I'm feeling this weird urge to go out and find more conifers to bring home. I am going to sleep on it, though. I'm sure I'll feel better in the morning.

You really don't plan on sleeping tonight, do you? That "strange feeling" you mention is one of the first symptoms of ACS (Addicted Conifer Syndrome).

Welcome to stage 3 -- the accumulation phase. Are we having fun yet?

congrats.. i know the feeling well ...

now.. when you pull those two out of those black pots.. study the media ... and then proceed to question what possessed you to pot up that RARITY ... in that SMALL ceramic pot.. in a media for annuals/perennials.. that like sodden feet ..

do NOT leave it in that pot for long ..

and dont leave those black pots in the sun for long either.. and i am talking weeks .. its probably not warm enough now for any short term problems.. but those pots.. with those large plants.. will suffer greatly.. in GA sun. in july/august ...

feeling enabled??? ... lol ..

Ken that Podocarpus is still in its black plastic can - he just set it inside the ceramic pot, probably for the photo op!

aahh ha ha ha Maple grove. I agree. Strange?

Matt you bought some beautiful plants. I agree that you should go back and get a couple blue conifers and a couple dark green ones too. Gardens always look nicer with multiple colors. ha ha. Have fun!

Are you telling us Tom let you leave with one little Podocarpus?You must have interrupted his nap.He's going to introduce you to more conifers than you ever thought
existed.Everyone in the SE should check out Cox Arb.and
get a walk-through with the MC (master-conehead).Nice

Hi folks,

Thanks for the comments.

Ken, Sara is correct. The P. macrophyllus is still in its original black nursery pot. I'm keeping the plant indoors while it's still cold outside, so I dropped the container into a ceramic pot temporarily. I'm not sure about the media in any of the three - I haven't made any changes since bringing them home.

Dave, yes, I'd say there may be some risk of full-out ACS, here. It's no big deal, though, man. I can stop anytime I want. ;)

Ladylotus, yes, more colors needed. That's exactly what I was thinking!

Doug, yes, Tom started me out easy, I suppose. Yet, I've somehow ended up with a new conifer each of the two times I've met him. And, as you probably know, Tom's just a neat person to be around. I plan to see him more!
