What to do with baby Spruce (Pic)

Last fall I was at our cabin in Grand Marais, MN (north shore of Superior) and I noticed some tiny spruce growing in the "lawn" area which is normally mowed. They must have been from last spring otherwise they would have been chopped. Since they were going to be axed anyway, I hastily dug them up before we left. They sat in small containers with no additional soil for a week or two before I got them in the ground. It was going to snow the next day so I just made a little mound of dirt, mixed in some sand and decomposing pine needles, and stuck these babies in there. Now the snow's melting and I want to know:

1. Do they have a chance of surviving?

2. What do I do to increase that chance?

3. What should I do with em? :)

4. Might they grow in the part of my acre that's a sloped maple forest?

P.S. is the one with the red arrow pointing to it a fir? It has flat needles layed flat on the branch.
