Like the Wate's Golden. Mine put out a fair number of male & female cones first couple yrs, but now that it's established & vigorous (almost 20' tall), has largely foregone cone production in favor of stem growth.

Nice...I really like Picea abies 'Cruenta'. I like that red/pinkish coloring. Makes it look like flowers in a conifer garden.

Wish it were spring here too. I think it is a ways off for me. I appreciate seeing your photos though.

Dang Sam! You need to start a conifer art gallery. Those are all frame worthy to me.

It's kind of spring and kind of winter here at the moment. It will be 80 one day and then drop to 34 the next. Aaaah! bring me spring already. =)

    I've got a few more...

Pinus contorta 'Frisian Gold' puts on a show each spring. The red female conelets and salmon pollen cones, against bright yellow new growth, is really over the top.

I too like Pinus contorta var. latifolia 'Frisian Gold', but it seems to burn pretty bad! (worse than 'Chief Joseph')

    Nice cones on that 'Silberlocke'!

'Frisian Gold' is one of my absolute favorites. It just gets better and better over a 6 week period in the spring. Next year I'll do a time-lapse thread to show the progression. I've never had any burn on mine. I've got two specimens sited similarly in a bit of shade, and the one with less shade looks a little nicer. When does yours burn Sam, summer or winter?

    Alex

  • botann

Alex, nothing burns here in the winter.
It's even hard to get a pile of brush to burn then. ;-)

    Nice photos, Nate and Mike!

Alex, I believe it burns in the summer. Even in early winter it was quite brown..
I'll keep an eye on it & see what it does.. Granted, they're in full sun, which helps nothing.

A few more photos of interest:

Picea abies 'Cruenta' (The red color seems to stay even as the tips fade to green!)

Picea orientalis 'Nutans' (nice display of cones)

Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Gold Rush' (love how the water beads up on these!)
