Picea glauca cultivars with yellow flush

10 years ago

Since the last couple of years I'm replanting my Pinetum.
The "common stuff" will be removed, and the rare one's will get in.
I'm planting all cultivars from the same species together so I can see al the (smal) differences between them.

Soon it's time for all the Picea glauca cultivars which I collected over the past years.
3 yellow one's catched my eyes which I want share with you:
{{gwi:700330}}

Picea glauca 'Golden Harbour'
This one is found in a Canadian forest.
{{gwi:700332}}

Picea glauca var. densata 'Mac's Golden'
Also known as 'McConnel's Gold'
Found by Joe Stupka at a Christmas tree plantation owned by Dick McConnell situated near Edenburg, PA.
{{gwi:700335}}

Picea glauca 'Spruce Lane'
An U.S. selection, unfortunately I don't know it's history...

    Beautiful cultivars Edwin.

    Do you know any US supplier for Picea glauca 'Spruce Lane' ?

    Color similar to my Picea a. 'Perry's Golden'.

    Send me all your "common stuff" you are going to remove.

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Very nice conifers, Edwin!
    They really spruce up the garden in the spring. ;-)

    Picea glauca 'Spruce Lane' is the only one I am familiar with.
    Our stock plants produced bountiful cones this year!

    Jan = Ja
    Laura = la
    Kools = ko

    Ja+la+ko = Jalako. It is a very nice plant.

    Richard, Dave, Dax, Sam and Liop, thanks for your nice comments.

    Dave, 'Buchholz' could be a supplier for the 'Spruce Lane'.
    Maybe also Conifer Kingdom has it...
    Indeed, it's colour is pretty simular to the 'Perry's Gold'.

    Dax, the 'Ketch Harbour' is weeping one.
    The one I mentioned is 'Golden Harbour'.
    Both are very nice cultivars!

    Sam, do you also have some male pollen from a Picea glauca 'Pendula', so you can create a nice cross between them?

    Henk, you forgot to mention that Nelis found it as a mutation on a Picea glauca var. albertiana 'Alberta Globe'.

    Dave, that's how this cultivar name arose.
    Were did you find this info?

    Hi Edwin,

    this fun little note about the origin of Jalako Gold's name was mentioned in the Auders and Spicer encyclopedia. It also said that it was a mutation on 'Alberta Globe.'

    Hi Edwin, guess I didn't know about 'Golden Harbour'. Funny how the mind works.

    Here you go Dax:
    Picea glauca 'Ketch Harbour', often misspelled as 'Ketch Harbor'.
    Found by Greg Williams in Canada in the Nova Scotia area.

    This picture was taken at the arboretum of my friend Gary Gee of Gee Farms.

    It's not a yellow one, but it would be nice to make a cross with the 'Golden Harbour', so a golden weeping one will arise...I known...keep on dreaming :0)

    Some other pics of Picea glauca cultivars with a yellow new growth:

    Picea glauca var. albertiana 'Jalako Gold'
    {{gwi:700349}}

    Picea glauca var. albertiana 'Daisy's White' aka 'Maigold'.
    Found in 1979 as a mutation on a Picea glauca var. albertiana 'Conica' by L. Jeurissen-Wijnen from Eigenbilzen, Belgium.

    Picea glauca var. albertiana 'Starlight'.
    This one was also found as a whitish-yellow mutation on a Picea glauca var. albertiana 'Conica'.
    It's colour is more white in comparison with the 'Daisy's White'.
