    Looks like my kaempferi cones. Soft green, unlike the purplish and more elongated cones on Japanese x European larch.

    Thanks Beng. It's good to know that something is what I was told it is. This was from a batch of understocks and I planted one and glad I did.

    3.5' tall. Not very old.

    Looks more like Larix gmelinii or perhaps L. principis-rupprechtii to me.

    L. kaempferi has larger cones with more numerous scales, with the scale tips curved outwards.

    ...and the parent tree.....between 35 and 40 feet. 11 inch dbh with my Toyota as a scale reference! lol
