I notice the new growth appears to be maybe in the vicinity of 4" long? I was just going to post to ask if this was common (not only for this species, but for doug first as well) -- as my doug firs have (for the first time since being planted 3 years ago) new growth that is 4-5" long near the top. I was stunned when I went out and saw that this morning! I have never had any more than an inch or two on them thus far.

Do you always get this amount of new growth on your trees?

Also, how big will the Picea Glauca Dent get?

freak.. look to last years growth ..

its aweful early here.. to think this is the extent of the spring growth ..

in the second pic.. there are some purple dots .. center.. rightish.. upish .... look at the limb with 3 new shoots.. note the darker branch from which they come out.. and you will see about 6 inches ... i realize i dont have a scale there..

Ahh, isn't this just the best part of the whole year?... looking around and discovering all the new growth... I love it!

Ken, thanks for posting the full tree shots! That looks pretty nice. I didn't expect it to be so wide for its height. You say the foliage burns, but when? From summer sun or winter sun/wind?

I'd like a slower growing form please (1-3" per year). :^)

the white that doesnt burn in late summer extreme heat... burns in winter sun and wind ..

yet i am baffled where it all goes.. since if you study the close ups ... you cant find it.. go figure...

maybe it all greens up ... nope.. third pic from the top ... look for a little white bud below the giant in focus piece ... and note the top of its branch is bare.. all the white tissue burned and fell off ... go figure
