This great story of 1300 brooms goes back to 1986, as Jan Beran and M. Halada first tried to discover the closed dwarf pine forests around the San Sebastian Mountain in the Krusne Hory region, northern Cesko, CZ, near the German border. This is a closed forest with all possible wild crossings of Pinus mugo and his subspecies, varietas, whatever we are able to imagine. Its a wet, sometimes moorish mountainous area. The first discoveries are published by Karel Hieke in Ceske slechteni in 2004. They found 28 new brooms there in 5 years.

Later on Miroslav Malik, der Professore, started with other czech breeders new discovery expeditions to this area. They are a great company of 30 czech breeders, and this group made finally a botanical history. In the beginning also joined Franz Etzelstorfer from Austria to the company, with him there was an international expedition.

After having seen the first photos of the Professore, I realized, that they are really hunters, just not hunting for the holy wild boars, like the celts since 4000 years, only for brooms. At the end of the hunting on the field there are no wild boar lying, but pine brooms.
