Longest I've ever found is 18 cm, from a cultivated tree in Britain; the longest cited measurement I've found reference to is 20 cm.

Yours in the photo is about 22 or 23 cm? Is it from a wild tree (and if so, where?), or cultivated?

Hi Resin,

This cone is from a wild tree in Gilmer County, Georgia. It measures 24.2 cm in length including peduncle. Google Earth coordinates are 34 deg 43' 32.13" N, 84 deg 38' 36.51" W. I thought this tree might be a good pollen donator for getting a good large cone hybrid between Pinus veitchii or a Pinus ayacahuite that is not hardy in zone 7a. The specimen tree is around 140' in height and 3' in diameter.

Interesting. There are some white pines roughly 125' tall nearby, but the biggest I've seen were around Ashville, NC & were 140' or more.
