Pinteum= all conifers

Arboretum= conifers and other trees.

I thought ti was that an Arboretum was a properly labeled collection of trees of any species whereas a pinetum was more of a friendly slang term for a conifer collection.

At the botanical garden where I volunteer the Pinetum is the part of the garden with the largest concentration of conifers. I think that jth has it right.
