Is this a grafted tree? Is the dark branch the graft? The main branch may be from the rootstock.

Personally, the main branch is growing nice like a tree and go with it. Cut off the graft, which may take many years to look normal.

Yes, it is grafted. I just went out and mega-analyzed the graft and I think what is growing is also graft material.

I see some new growth on the rootstock and it appears to be (just guessing here) regular cypress b/c the needles aren't "ascendens" like they are on both of the existing branches/leaders....they are just bushy green.

I'm guessing the graft just got its groove on and turned into twins...? lol

Quite the serene feel. -Chop it off Andrea and rub off all those nubs on the understock.
