then its probably a species seedling ..

and it will come back from the roots .. but for you killing it thru improper planting or watering ...

the latin is taxodium dissectum ... google it for rooting possibilities.. including dirrs manual of propagation ...

but the short answer is probably that it will not root ...

They can be rooted, to my understanding, but not in water. I believe it can be done with some difficulty.

I believe the best bet, and the easiest, would be to see if the remaining trunk and roots grow again.

Maybe graft the broken leader to the remaining trunk would be easier than rooting? Probably not easy but you could look into it for fun.

I think the similar metasequoia roots best off dormant cuttings. I did some pruning on my metasequoia in Feb and stuck a few sticks in pots. They have sprouted small leaves but no roots that I have seen yet.

SO, w/o using google even, I bet they are rootable and you may as well try as long as you don't go manic compulsive and spend the kid's college funds on misting chambers and grow lights lol.

Your best bet will be to figure out if you can spray the remaining trunk with something that repels dogs peaceably.

Trim the stump/roots up with a clean cut. Plant it and keep watered. Bald Cypress will usually regenerate once from what would be certain death for most conifers.

Young BCs can sprout reasonably well, even if cut to the ground.
