I hope I will get a few viable seeds. I found a local species P. thunbergii that is producing pollen cones, so I will use that.

Keith, it would be much more intersting if you can find some male pollen from a Pinus thunbergii 'Ogon'.
Maybe that will give you some nice golden dwarf form seedlings...

Try some densiflora pollen. They hybridize in Japan. 'Umbraculifera' or one of the dragon eye cultivars.Or even 'Pendula'. They all tend to produce lots of pollen on a consistent basis.

thanks for the ideas. I don't have any thunbergii cultivars that have pollen this year. I will check my one denisflora. If I don't find anything more exciting, I will use the species thunbergii.
