| Hi,
I just brought home an unknown Larix. I do know that it came from Iseli, 5 or so years ago. I have manage to do nothing but confuse myself in trying to key it out, oh well. I would like to ask what this tree prefers. I know full sun, but how much moisture? Thanks in advance! S. |

| Thank you, Ken. You've always been helpful! The Larix appears to be L. decidua, possibly pendula, although I am just not sure. I have a L. k. 'Diana', which I nearly killed by planting it in too dry a spot. I moved it in a last ditch effort to a location that I thought may be too moist, and it surprised me by recovering. This is why I asked here about siting the tree correctly. |

| there are only a few peeps.. mostly those who hang here.. who can tell you whether it is L. decidua or L. kaempheri ... but it doesnt matter ... i have no problem with either ... in the sand ... but what concerns me is how yours got so dry ... ALL trees .. which conifers are ... need complete and proper water for the first year.. insert finger and water when they nearly dry .... if you choose a dry spot.. and did not water it.. then that was the problem ... though many trees can handle very dry conditions.. a recent transplant can not.. no matter what its mature abilities are ... and the same with the converse ... you can not put a tree which is tolerant of water.. in the middle of a shallow pond and hope it will live. .. AS A TRANSPLANT .... the fact that yours responded with a moist site... indicates to me.. it wasnt getting enough water at the prior site ... i hope brandon comes along and gives you hist link to planting trees ... ken |

| Ah Ken, This was totally neglect on my part. I planted the larch in an out of the way spot, and did not take good care of it. I have planted many trees, and do know how to water to a plant's needs, but totally blew it with this one. I was lucky to be able to 'save' the tree. A lesson well learned! |

| Is a photo possible? If it's 'Pendula' you are probably looking at kaempheri for species? I have 'Larix kaempheri 'Pendula growing in complete shade in damp loamy soil. Loves it. Dave
