Pinus ayacahuite pollination

I have several female flowers on my various clones of Pinus ayacahuite but no experience in determining at what point they would be pollen receptive. Since I didn't have male ayacahuite cones I gave most a "dusting" of Pinus stylesii pollen as it should be compatable. Pinus strobus will begin dispersing pollen soon.

Found three cones on my Abies x koreocarpa yesterday. I hope to find some pollen elsewhere. When the scales open up is that when it will become receptive?

Yep. Looks like you're a mite too late with that Abies already, the scales have already closed up again.

That's a slightly odd cone there, it is in the position normal for a pollen cone, rather than erect on top of the branch as usual for a seed cone. Something that I see occasionally on Abies.

Here's update on one of the better examples. Looking forward to a huge cone crop in 2015! lol
