Hi everyone.

I have found a number of things that I will likely share on the forum here now and again. I have written about a number of them on my blog- most recently about the Douglas fir in this picture.

If you are interested in reading about my finds (or just looking at pictures), please check it out. I also hunt for unusual herbaceous stuff in addition to the conifers.

Be warned, however... I do swear a bit.

Awesome blog!
You have found a lot of cool stuff; I especially liked that nice Abies grandis var. idahoensis broom.

Is the swearing your trademark, or what?
You might be taken more seriously if you didn't--just a thought.

Tell me more about this globe shaped dougie please.Swearing is in my way of thinking, an arbitrary means of using words that you or anyone else may choose to use in order to pre-empt discriptive terminology.I personally allocate extreme adjectives for the worst possible situations.Sam has been a positive force for change.Swear if you must....you do bring freshness !Doug

Sam, which Abies grandis var. idahoensis broom do you mean, I only see a Pseudotsuga broom mentioned at this topic...

Put in several firs last fall.the two Douglas seemed stressed but are coming along nicely now with good weather.

Thanks Sam, I found the Abies grandis broom topic.
Reading all these stories makes it clear that grafting conifers isn't that easy as it looks like!
It will take years of trying before you've the skills to do it in the right way...

Unfortunately the owner of the property where the Abies grandis broom is never wrote back. I'm kind of bummed, since I think it would make a pretty good garden plant.

Random, don't worry about Abies grandis brooms.
Several are found here in The Netherlands, some are already harvested, others are still hanging high up in the trees.
Maybe some they they will find their way to the U.S. again...
