Weeping spruce, probably pruned.

Could it be Tsuga canadensis (Canadian hemlock) 'Pendula'?

A close up of the needles would help. It looks like Spruce but Hemlock is also a possibility.

Definitely a weeping spruce....not hemlock.

Looking closely at the photo, I believe it is from Dan's grdn (looks like his house in background, and the golden edge of his picea orientalis 'Skylands':). I believe it is picea glauca 'Pendula', commonly called weeping white spruce. It can often be found in full service garden centres, and perfectly hardy to our Ontario climate.

That's Dan's garden alright and it looks to me more like his Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns'. His Picea glauca 'Pendula' would be much larger and located more to the right I think.

They are both excellent very narrow strict weeping trees with strong central leaders.

Picea omorika 'Pendula Bruns' has a two tone color to the needles. Green on top and silvery blue on the bottom. The leader can wander sometimes creating an irregular upright form with great character but can also be trained to be a straight spire. One of my favorite.

Picea glauca 'Pendula' has a muted grey green color. The form tends to be more consistently straight and formal looking.

You can't go wrong with either. Get one or a family of three at varying ages for staggered heights.

Dan has a large glauca 'Pendula', but he may have more. Might be an omorika. Maybe Dan will chime in.
