All three plants are roughly the same age. This shows the differences in color with various levels of light exposure. All were planted in 2009, though to be fair the one in the second photo was moved this last Winter.
Part shade. Note it's more leggy, less symmetrical and a not quite as bright. Gets about 2-4 hours of direct sun and indirect the rest of the day.
Most the day sun, if that's such a term. Gets a bit of shade in the evening.
Hot sun. Does get a little overhead protection but it really sees the hottest, longest part of the day with the sun beating right down on it. I note how much more compact it is, also probably a factor of being in tighter competition for water.
I guess the bottom line is that if you can get it established in full sun, that's no question the way to go.
