An east facing bench up against a structure is good. 50/50 peat moss to perlite is good or you can purchase Miracle Grow and add a small bag of perlite to it. My local Walmart sells perlite in small bags...

If you don't use something with fertilizer already in the bag, buy some osmocote for "indoor and outdoor plants" and top dress the pots with it. There's a scooper in the osmocote and a photo diagram that shows how much osmocote to apply.

Don't allow the potting media to dry out. Keep it moist at all times.

This winter after the plants go dormant and prior to temps dropping to freezing, bring the seedlings indoors to a basement and put a shop lamp above them and leave it running 24 hours a day or, 12 on and 12 off.

Next spring acclimate the seedlings to sunlight over the course of a week. An hour the first day, two the next day, three the third day and so on. And then again put them on an east-facing bench.

Dappled light all day is fine too, as is 2-3 hours of late afternoon sun, only.

pines do just fine.. in my yard.. germinating on bare, sterile sand ...

but i have never tried filling a tray with such and growing pine seed ...

i will be interested to hear how others have done it...

whenever i have mixed seed with fert, on just plants in general ... i have screwed it up ... so i would quiz dax at length on that ... but then i usually bifurcate the process.. and transplant seedlings when they are big enough.. as usually different potting media is requisite for the two processes ...

again.. he has done it.. i am speculating.. telling you ... which issue i would hone in on ...

now.. if i could just quit picturing dax in a bathing suit scampering up to the deck.. lol...
