Wow, Richard - that last shot is so perfect with the deep red of the beech working off the blue spruce and the flowers. You sure have access to some great rare/newer conifers. Wish we were neighbors and could trade. :)

    Hi Will,

Thank you. I really love this weeping copper beech too (Fagus sylvatica 'Purple Fountain'). Had it five years now and it is such a wonderful narrow form and colour. I think you already have a considerable wealth and depth of conifers judging by the pictures from your great garden!

    Richard .

We have had a cold wet spring also.

About 1 month behind last year for things beginning to pop.

    Your garden is superb.

I especially like the Picea mexicana 'Blue Shimmer'

    Thanks for the tour.

Looks great, thanks for the pictures. Many interesting plants, and I'd surely be interested in seeing more. Picea breweriana 'Fruehlingsgold' is a new one to me, and looks very interesting.

Maybe this has come up before, I'm not sure, but I wanted to ask about your mulching strategy. Do you use no mulch, or are you mulching with compost? I imagine you must spend a lot of time weeding...

Also, you have a very interesting Picea glauca 'Pendula'. Very artistic the way it is looping over at the top, I love it.

Thanks Richard for your beautiful pics which are showing us how to use conifers in combination with a wide variety of perennials.

It was Resin who told me some time ago that Picea mexicana is a subspieces of Picea engelmannii.
This will make it Picea engelmannii' subsp. mexicana 'Blue Shimmer'.

Your Picea glauca 'Pendula' is bending in a weird way.
May be you're gonna to stake it, or do want to let it grow it's own way?

Thank you for the comments and information (about 'Blue Shimmer).
Edwin/Alex, I have never staked this plant and so I decided to let it just go its own way...
Alex, I would like to use a mulch at least in some areas in future. So far I just keep on weeding(!)

Great photos, and a lovely garden! I like the mix of deciduous and herbaceous plants along with all the conifers. The variety of colors of new growth is beautiful and I particularly like the 'Black Widow' rhodie.

What is the low growing conifer with blue candles in the center background behind the Picea pungens 'The Blues' ?

    Thanks!

Omorika is so beautiful in the spring... One of the most beautiful new growth ... Delicate light green and silver.:) The needles are so soft!

And nice breweriana.... I love spruces a lot in the spring....

Beautiful, Richard! Always enjoy watching your garden!
