I know last year I started one of the longest debates I've see on this board with my planting of a rare Pinus maximartinezii in a non suitable zone. At the time of my original posting, I said that I was well aware that it wouldn't be cold hardy here in my zone 8 climate but I would protect it to keep it alive. Well, I am happy to say that my efforts paid off and after two freezing precipitation events and a minimum low of 19.7F, the tree sailed through the winter without any damage.

Pinus greggii

Pinus durangensis

Araucaria angustifolia

Dacrydium cupressinum. I went back on forth as to whether I should try one of these but after seeing two very happy specimens growing in the Atlanta area, I decided to go for it.

Cupressus glabra 'Sulphurea'. One of my favorite conifers in the garden.

Cupressus macrocarpa 'Greenstead Magnificent' Not one for planting in the ground here but have always liked this plant.

Taxodium distichum ' Cascade Falls' Just about finished with the staking of this one.

Way too many plants with no place to put them. I need more land.

Max is alive and well stil. Guessing it it probably nearing eight feet tall so had to enlarge its winter enclosure. Thanks for enquiring.

That's what I'm hoping to have someday, everything is just thrown together right now. I just try to keep it all watered! Very nice and neat.

This is very interesting. I have seeds for Pinus maximartinezii that I need to get planted. How susceptible are they to southern pine beetles?

Yes, room for a few more prized specimens but not going to turn the turf area into a tree jungle.

Would the taxodium "Cascade Falls" grow straight up if you didn't stake it? Or would it just be too weepy w/o training?

scpalmnut, I see you have a Cunninghamia lanceolata 'Glauca'. Judging by the horizontal growth, I assume it was started with a cutting obtained from a branch. It should start a new sprout in the Spring that will grow vertically,........and fast.

Wow eight feet tall! Mine is about four feet and just beginning to produce some mature foliage. I love the Dacrydium; probably my favorite conifer. It is borderline tender here but I have mine in a protected area and hope for the best. So far, so good. Nice rundown; your plants look good.

My how things have grown in five years. All this stuff seems huge now.
