`Kuhmoisten kulta is widely considered to be the best of all Finnish golden spruces. Here original tree.

Buds starting to break. I suspect this shade has positive effect protecting connection from burning sun.

New growth, in shade it appears less white than it would in full sun as you can see in later pic.

i kept the shade there whole winter and took it off when ground melted. New growth is now exposed to full sun.

I used steel wire to direct succesful branches upwards and took off compeating branches to help grafted ones to take leading role and all `leaderhormones´ that tend to go into highest tips.

I belive that i get material for grafting much faster when i use these strong rooted bigger seedlings as rootstock. There are also advantage of avoiding most animal attacks, early spring frost is also not as big problem as near ground surface.

Here another of that same cultivar. Again colour is missing in artificial shade. Main graft made into leader has failed and backupgraft from side branch has been tightened up with steel wire to take it´s place.

Bigger plant of `Kuhmoisten kulta´ at my backyard.

By the way, did you notice the namepad in one of the earlier pictures. I have used aluminium taken from beercans. It can be easily cutted with ordinary scissors, written on By any nail or pin, and it is allso fun getting new material for naming whole lot of conifers :)

Another pic of one of the grafts at the end of growing season. One year after grafting, since it was made in early August 2013.
