do you have a warranty??? can the seller insure you.. that it was not winter damage.. from before you got it???

can you get a better pic... perhaps int he evening.. with less sunshine washing out the color of the plant...

dig you learn about your soil.. and water when the plant needed it.. ???

IMO, that looks very much like a water issue. Too much and too little can have very similar symptoms but in my experience, once they start looking like this, they don't really recover.

While I am not saying that conifers don't get transplant shock - they can - it is just not all that common and like with many common conifer problems, can take some time before it shows up. Although I know Ken will cringe at the thought, a lot of planting goes on in summer here and I have rarely seen transplant shock an issue on a newly planted conifer. Water problems, yes. Root problems, yes. I'd check those first. And hoping a warranty is available also.

It won't recover.

A guess it was B&B. Again a guess.

If so, they go into a slow decline, because the roots, usually 10% left after dig, are not able to support the foliage.

Buy smaller potted plants. The survival is fairly good if all the other important planting techniques are implemented.

Thanks-you've confirmed my fears of certain death. I've never killed one and I've planted a dozen or more Chamaecyparis--well, There was one that was in terrible clay soil before I knew any better. This was b&b and it's identical mate mate had some sun scorch when I got it but it's now happy and thriving about 20 feet away. The one dying has morning sun and is more protected from coastal wind. It was planted with good soil. I'll check roots when I pull it out next week but I think I was over zealous when watering or something happened before I got it. Thanks all. I included detail pic. That's the color. It's not sunny or overexposed.
