I am not sure what caused its demise. I am sure it died going into dormancy last fall.

If you did not see any issues with foliage and wood then I would suspect root issues. Dig it up and do some detective work there. That's where I would start.

You didn't mention if B&B or potted. I would think if it made it 3-4 years B&B it was out of danger but if potted and root bound and no care taken to give it help there they sometimes don't make it.

here in adrian MI.. i am on my 5th ... you tell me why ... the rest of the pines havent given me as much trouble.. except for piece of chief crap jo ...

but for two spurts of 90 degree weather for 3 days each.. just enough to bolt a lot of the spring yellows... its been a cool .... if not cold spring.. and that is why the pines are behind ....

not to mention that 23 degree night in early may ... that caused some serious damage.. which on evergreens.. is just showing...

is was potted when I bought it but I really did give it help, and planted it well, I think I know what I'm doing there. I went out and took off a small twig branch and checked and the cambium layer is still green.

This one has grown in central Ohio, doing okay so far. Hard to imagine it looking like a tree when it was just a small graft.

How does it grow in full sun?

It's one of the best in full sun.... it's never had a burnt needle for me here in my zone 6. Every other yellow conifer I have has had some type of a burn.

Same here, mine gets zero shade.
