Probably a very old J.virginiana 'Canaertii' x2.

The shoots are too stout and the cones ('berries') too large for J. virginiana; looks more like J. chinensis to me.

Thanks to both replies so far. Also, the shoots are NOT flat, but round, if that isn't apparent in the picture. If you think chinensis, what varietal and why? Berries are half the size of a pea. Bark has long, dry strands that can be pulled off the main trunk. These are in zone 6b.

Resin knows conifers, sunNshade. We're talking 100% coming from him.

I would have to say J.chinensis 'Torulosa' then.

many J's can be rooted ... if you have some itch to have this exact plant ...

research dirrs tome on propagation of woody plants as a starting point ....

if you root cuttings.. in the proper season.. the name becomes irrelevant ...
