ps: you really dont want anything 'fast growing' NEAR the house.. so define how far from the house.. etc.. though the pic would handle a lot of those facts ....

cannot post picture but tree will be 70ft from house on left corner facing north. live on corner lot and it can be windy. soil is clay and acidic. will be close to street.

I think Ken wants to know what part of the country you are in also. If you are in St Louis or so some of the pines do decent. Then again, you said large magnolia so I assume you are in the southeast.

Live oak is typical and I wish I could grow one.

If zone 7, maybe 8, how about metasequoia or taxodium. Neither is evergreen but they grow fast and look like they should be evergreens lol.

I think the big conifers do better in your area than mine but I will defer to those with more experience.
