WARNING: Antivirus 2012 Popup on Gardenweb

I have had an Antivirus 2012 Popup three times in two days on the Garden web site.....mostly on the conifer section as I recall. I imagine I am not the only poor sod with a potentially infected PC....its a shame when a harmless garden website is trolled by scum probably from from Eastern Europe or Nigeria.

That happened to me, but I used my own antivirus to check. Don't use that pop-up to clean your computer as many viruses have been known use a pop-up like that to gain access.

My anti-virus program shut me down here two different times in the last week.

Thanks for the heads up. That one is a nightmare to shift. I've backed up my files to the external HD in case. Recommend people do the same.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY POP UP THAT SAYS 'CLICK TO CLEAN UP' no matter how real it looks. Go into you own antivirus software like tj said.

When you use Monzilla Firefox and have Adblock Plus enabled you have no pop ups.

I have a clean screen on the GW page.

I sent this to the GW masters.

Is this true that your site uses fake anti-virus ads for income?

My own browser blocks most of these so I do not know first hand. Please give me your version before I proceed."

This touches a personal note. I had one of them fake anti-virus virus' a few years back, caught it from a buffer over-run exploit in a PDF. Had to reinstall Windows.

What is the official way of looking up who owns a site? Whois or something like that?

I know that not everyone can afford one, but I view this site on an Ipad and get no pop ups at all.
