also include where you are.. big city.. soil type... how planted.. how big they are .. potted or ball burlap .. etc.. freshly dug.. etc ...

really you havent told us much beyond their wild ride home ...

and while you are at it ... dig a small 3 to 6 inch hole next to one.. over the rootball planted.. and tell us if its dry or soggy down there .. that is how YOU find out.. about moisture at depth.. as we can not intuit that info ...

I've posted 2 pics to show the browning.

We are in the suburbs .. I'm told the soil is sandy - there was a row of evergreens planted in same spot years before so they do grow well in this soil.

The Green Giants are 4-5 feet tall, freshly dug at the farm and balled in burlap - no pots.

They are planted in a birm of fresh, clean topsoil and with some food applied at the root (by the landscaper). They are also mulched on top.

It's rained quite a bit lately and when I felt the soil, it was quite moist. I can dig down but with the amount of rain we've had I'm certain its wet all the way down at this point.

Like I said, I did look inside each of the trees and all of that looked good. It's more the exterior that concerns me as it is browning and the tips are browning.

Lisa, you are going to have to wait and see what happens. The browning may be from damage from the transplant and move. Green Giants need to be kept watered when first transplanted but are very drought resistant once established. I have 16 growing on my property that I planted over the last 5 years. I did lose two out on the corner from dog urine. During extreme drought some fronds near the trunk will turn brown and drop off and I have had that happen but with a little watering and rain they recovered quickly. I have not seen any browning on the outer ends though. I would trim off all the brown (dead) ends and that may be the end of it. Keep them watered unless you have good rains. Green Giants are one the best plants of all time.
