Wow. I am looking to do one in the fall. The nursery near me only has 2 foot saplings. I had asked on a previous thread if they need support early on to prevent the main leader from drooping. How tall is this one and have you had to stake it?

Roger, I guess mine is ten or so foot tall. It was two or thee foot at transplant and looked like a branch sticking up its first year in the ground. Really as a fairly fresh graft that was what it was.

After a year it figured out it wasnt a branch on a big tree any longer and lost that floppy look I think you are referring to. I think it has to do with bud orientation.

Mine was staked for about two years but to keep it from blowing over rather than pull it upright. If you look to the far right of the pic you will see a planter on a tree stump. That was a big ash tree I cut down a couole years before planting the Ogon. My theory is its roots messed with the Ogon's root pattern.

These grow so fast buying small is the way to go. Post some pics of yours when ya get it in!
