Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant to say rain and additionally they get sprayed by sprinkler. This year has not been as dry as prev two yrs, so plants In general doing much better

Plants were supposed to b 3 yrs old, about 6" tall by 12" wide. I had them potted for about 2 months and planted them inground in late February.

I suspect you'd be better off with one of the more heat-adapted yews like Taxus floridana or Taxus globosa.

Yes, USDA 9 would be expected to be too much for this (except on the Pacific Coast, near the ocean) - and yews in general are prone to root rot on top of it.

No, probably not worth bothering with in Texas. Although there are some at NCSU, and I've seen large ones in Williamsburg, VA, so they are not as heat & humidity sensitive as some other European conifers.
