Sickly Dwarf Alberta Spruces (I think that's what they are)

I have 2 of these ornamental trees in containers in our back yard which is mostly shaded, and gets some morning light. The photo is the worst of the two trees.

Both trees have spots like this on the back of them, the other tree it's mostly on the back. This tree it's on the back & also on the front as in this picture. As you can see though, this tree also has some green in the top of it.

I'm trying to save both these trees, but don't know what is wrong with them. I had them sitting where they got indirect & mid-day sun, and moved them a couple months ago, but have not noticed a difference. They're watered regularly, and fertilized with evergreen fertilizer every couple months or so.

Would appreciate any advice or suggestions as to what I can do to save both of these - they weren't cheap & the last set I had in planters someone "borrowed" and forgot to water for a whole month.
