Great conifers made even better with the mix of companion plants and perennials.
We use to see those cloud formations around here. Not anymore. Less then 5 inches of rain since April. Next two days they forecast 106F. I have been watering every day to keep things alive. To much invested not to do so.
I am certainly very much aware of your ongoing heatwave in the Central Plain states, and elsewhere. I appreciate that it must be a huge challenge to face. Here in the UK, we do not have to face such problems. That said the summer so far is disappointing and poor. We have had a lot of rain which is good for the plants as you can tell but we are having little in the way of sunshine to compensate (for people to enjoy.) Today is nice but have not been able to say that too often really. I am though as you say very thankful to be able to enjoy the garden and its greenery.
In relation to your comment about the cloud formations, I imagine you have some wonderful skies to admire in your part of the world. I once visited the Severe Storms Centre in Norman, OK and saw some amazing weather-related images. I have always had a fascination with the weather.
I heard them mention on Gardener's Question Time today about the detrimental effect on plants of a low light summer as we are having. Not sure how that would translate to conifer new growth.
