Sorry to say, but that's not a Picea but a Pinus...

It does have a pretty face and nice brown hair :0)

    Which species is it?

    Hi Sam,
It is possible that this is a Pinus edulis. Thank you for your help.

Is there anybody in the United States, who can the WB at appropriate times to cut off and transport for gardeners?

    Hello Milan,

very nice broom. Don't know if anyone would be interested in going after this one. I've heard that Pinus edulis is very difficult to propogate and keep alive. It's one of the more tempermental trees. Anyone have any other feedback? I've seen very few Pinus edulis cultivars on collections.

Milan, I assume that's the south rim of the canyon. It's a long way from almost anywhere and going there in the winter makes it even more difficult and unlikely, especially coupled with what Dave had to say.
There might be somebody out there that will do it, but I wouldn't bet on it.
The north rim is about 1,000 ft. (approx. 300 meters) higher and looks a lot different.

Hi all, broom is in south area of Grand Canyon, on the road between Flagstaff and Tuba City, it's easily available, a few meters by the road. Maybe someone will be on this area sometimes. We won't go for it from Czech Republic. We are not sure if it's 100% edulis.

No, I think it's not Pinus edulis, the needles are too long and the habit are not the same.Maybe Resin help ?

Clement, Henk and I both think it's a Pinus taeda but like I told before, I'm not a species specialist...

Pinus taeda does not grow naturally in this area. Unless it was planted here intentionally...

Its been a few years, all I rember between Flagstaff and Tuba City is desert. I can't offer any guesses to the id, im still new to this.
On the second picture you can see the tree well around it, and the tree behind it. So at some point it was or is still irrigated. Then again I don't see much in the way of weeds in the well, maybe its not getting water. If it is getting water I guess it could be what ever can handle hot, dry, windy, areas, with cold, dry, windy winters.

Quick google say that pinus taeda gets 40 to 60 inches of rain a year in its native range. Would you want to try and keep one alive in a place that gets less than 1 inch of rain a month (what Tuba City gets)?

One more photo. Hopefully it will identify the species Pinus

    Looks great!

I would expect P. edulis based on the locale, but the appearance doesn't look like the typical P. edulis I've seen.

Agreed that P. edulis grafts can be difficult, although it's one of my favorite plants to graft - the scent is wonderful!

I guess you've to ask Nate to do this job for you.
    He's from the Colorado area...

    Oh, I made a mistake...
The distance between the Nate's place and the Grand Canyon is more then 10 hours drive.
I guess you have to search for somebody else who's willing to collect this broom...
