I found him near his home, in the hospital. Planted 2-3 years ago. It grows fast. there is speculation that this is one of the local endemics.

but the question is... is/was it sheared in that shape..

looks a little to perfect of a shape for mother nature ....

any evidence that other things on the property are sheared???

Juniper haircut is not accurate. it is his natural form. Here are other instances beside him. I believe that it is the seedlings Juniperus excelsa. I'll try next time to take pictures in more detail

Looking to other photos via Google, the one's at your photos look like Juniperus excelsa indeed.

The one's planten are sheared at the nursery before they got planted there.
All are nice one single leader specimens.

You write that you're living in Krasnodar, zone 6.
Is this zone 6 because you're close to the Black Sea?

It seems that Abies nordmanniana and Picea orientalis are growing in higher elevations forest in your area.
Did you ever checked this area for special trees and witches brooms, just like Jari from Finland is doing?

we have a rich local flora. I was looking for a broom. I think they should look for in estetsvenno habitat in the mountains.

yes it is a zone 6, maybe 7. winter we have enough hodolnye. cedars die.

    Thank you all for participating.

Yes, you've to look in the higher elevations (the mountains) for finding brooms in your native conifers.

It looks that you've the same zone as I've in The Netherlands.
This surprised me at first, but a map showed me that you're near to the black see, which is the cause of a milder climate.

Do you also have a conifer collection?
If so, would you show us some photos of it in a new topic?
    Thanks in advance!

The new photos are Juniperus deltoides (Eastern Prickly Juniper / ÃÂþööõòõûÃÂýøú úþûÃÂÃÂøù). A species only recently separated from Juniperus oxycedrus; native to the eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.
