I'm thinking we're going to see a few pots placed around the' Raahe Serpentine'.Unfortunately I can't speak to this grafting method,looks interesting though.I'm curious about

I can't relocate the thread, but on a bonsai forum the technique was used to collect bonsai. Two or 3 seedlings were attached to a branch that the collector wanted to harvest. Roots were in soil in a bag. Collector kept seedlings watered and collected the branch months after the grafting. The photo progression was amazing.

I think the way you show would be easily accomplished.

Yes, this is essentially approach grafting, used very often in bonsai. If the seedlings are cared for, it should work very well.

I quess the timing would be similar to normal grafting. Pines just before circulation starts (Finland 1.5.) And spruces also after hardening of needles (Finland 1.5. and 1.8.)

Jari, of coarse this method of grafting is possible and could be done witthout problems on your own property.
If you're gonna to do this in a forest then there could be problems like destroying and vandalism...

Which one do you've in mind to propagate this way?

I had in mind pinus contorta taylors sunburst that i have at my yard. I might plant some normal contortas next to it year before and connect plants next spring. Then separate from motherplant year after that.
I have heard that taylors sunburst is tricky one to graft. ...Just wait a minute... i have also heard the same thing mentioned about chief joseph. What is it about these speciality-contortas??
