i got rid of all my blue juniper.. for the same reason

they never seem to die.. just get uglier.. and uglier....

I think that this is a fungal disease

If you want to keep your juniper go by a ready to use Liquid Copper Fungicide. Spray every 7 days top to bottom. Apply in late evening when temps are cooling down. Spray till you see improvement.

A common product carried by your local nursery.

i dont know if a 3 dollar juniper is worth the time.. cost.. and effort... lol

just about anything... area appropriate.. would be better than this plant.. IMHO ...

You should find out exactly what it is before buying and applying chemicals. Maybe there is an Extension office near there that can help.

This is a cultivar of Juniper scopulorum which grows best in dry rocky areas. They do not like the high heat and humidity in the eastern U.S. In east coast locations they usually succumb to Phomopsis blight. They usually last 2-3 years then look so pathetic you rip them out.i have never seen a nice mature J. scopulorum in the east.

Seem to do fine in the Midwest heat and humidity.

Maybe my micro climate is the answer.

I only know of one other in Kansas City that is prospering.

It is also typical in my area for only the outer foliage of these ('Moonglow' is the most frequent non-columnar one at outlets) to look good. Same problem is also prevalent among blue Colorado spruce and blue forms of white fir here, with results in the semiarid climate east of the Cascade mountains being sometimes stunningly better. But your juniper is actually bald on the inside, as indicated previously this is likely to be pathenogenic.
