Well, not a yew. Maybe Japanese boxwood, but that's just a guess.

I think that is a Taxus Baccata Amersfoort
A very nice plant, mine grew to about 5' tall & wide in about 10 years. It's planted in partial sun on slight hillside. Never had problem until this last winter with -20 in Chicago, had lots of dieback. Pruned them off and its growing nicely again.

Definitely an 'Amersfoort' yew.....one of my favorite dwarf conifers!! Not a very common selection - nice score!

Great buy and such an excellent Taxus! I've seen just slightly bigger ones at a local nursery for $75. I'm jealous =)

LJ, if you like, you could make heading-type pruning cuts on those wayward stems, just to bring them back to proportion with the rest of the plant. To do this, simply make your cuts immediately after a branchlet.

Not at all saying the plant needs this, but rather, you might find it a desirable thing to do.
