Another anomaly - On a cedar this time

Since I'm always looking for the weird stuff, I've got a close eye on one of my cedars. Everyone knows the prostrate deodara called 'Feelin' Blue'. Well not too long back a yellow highlighted cousin was released under the trade name of 'Feelin' Sunny' or Cedrus deodara 'Monkinn' PPAF.

During a freak wind storm last year a big native hackberry was knocked over in my garden where I had several sun sensitive plants living in the dappled shade. In the super bad heat wave last summer the center of the Feelin' Sunny got sunburned. Now this spring and summer there's good news and bad news........

The good news is, it isn't sunburning this year so like most deodaras it's taking our summer temps. The bad news, or not bad I guess, is suddenly all 5 corners of the plant have turned completely vertical and are growing to the sky, leaving an indention in the center about the size of a basketball.

It's going to be very interesting to see where this one goes. Here's a couple of shots.
