75% off but no tag.
grafted on standard,,,,,I assume Picea abies

Likely Picea abies Little Gem.

The others mentioned have more of a layered habit. What your're showing is looking more like a ball which is typical of Little Gem.

Very common cultivar sold on a standard.

whass,after reading yours, I looked at little gem up by house
Both have same new growth,,,,,seems odd that little gem could get that big
this could be maybe 10 yrs. old

So , when they graft these,do they put only 1 scion on,,,
or do they put on a bunch ?
seems it would take long to reach saleable 12in. size ?

franks used to be the place to be ... when i was a kid ... thru young adult .... out in the western suburbs ...

now fess up ...

this must have been one of your first ... since they have been out of biz for quite a while ...

the google machine says they closed 2004,,,so my guess at 10 years was right on the f****** nose
no only plant on standard ,,,but it is used just as it should be,,,poking out of low growing cotoneaster,,,also, above a nice ground cover I have been nurturing ,,I call it creaping Charlie
Now,,Who has answer about how they start these things?
how long takes to get saleable?

p.s.is there something wrong with plants on large standard ?
oh , maybe you noticed rope at bottom, still on after rough weather

I wish my little gem looked like this one! mine looks like it went through a garbage disposal- lol!

whaas, you are correct about the layering of nidiformis, although I have one (in a perfect spot) which is globe shaped like this one looks. that makes me wonder if it is something other than nidiformis, because my other three are definitely nesty looking.

nice use of this standard btw!
