Could be a similar growing type like Pinus sylvestris Barrie Bergman. It also may burn much worse, so watch it John. Report back after you've gone back in a few weeks and then another few weeks.

At some point it's going to burn. White foliage has to.
Worth grafting, yes. Still wait a bit though.

Dax, the tree is in the understory of an oak hickory forest and probably only receives one or two hours of direct sun/day. It may be hard to judge the branch's proclivity to burn but I'll keep an eye on it :-)

Yes, keep an eye on it.
The scions are too thin for grafting, you've to root if from a cutting.
Juniperus virginiana cultivars are easy to propagate this way.

Not all. My friend rooted 100% 'Taylor' and 0% of my 'Lebrotni' which may be J.chinensis or xchinensis? You know which one, Edwin it is Edwin. I'd suspect it to be much better to graft 'Lebrotni'. And, with John's... wait for more wood to do an initial graft is my opinion. You are the expert though, I will defer at any time.

Dax, several times I wondered about the 'Lebrotni' in your garden, in my eyes it didn't fit for the species Juniperus virginiana, in my eyes it's a Juniperus chinensis because of it's foliage and berries.

Actually I think it's a Juniperus chinensis 'Maney' which must be grafted indeed...

My experiences with mutations found in the wild is to propagate it as soon as possible.
If you wait too long there's a very big chance that it's gone, for whatever reason.
Because if this I would recomment you to make cuttings this fall.

As to J.ch. 'Maney' - I see what you mean. I've never seen that plant until now. I think it's a match.
