A total compliment

Ok so recently I have been skulking around some other forums asking a few questions here and there. So I do not know if it is because I love conifers so much or what but you guys are the best. You are all funny, knowledgable, passionate, kind and very interesting. I do not post much but I follow your post and have learned so much from you all thank you. Some of the other forums are not nearly as much fun. Though the tool and lawn people have been great too. You conifer guys and gals are my kind of people.

I think a lot of us know plant material very well whether annuals, perennials, or deciduous shrubs and trees & and of course, conifers. Therefore, we're all pretty passionate about plants, generally-speaking. Furthermore, Jon in Michigan knows pond plants.

I think on behalf of everyone, we appreciate your compliment.

You do seem to know your plant material well but it goes beyond that it goes to how you deal with other posters and their questions. Thanks for telling me about Jon in Michigan I love ponds and pond plants

Thanks, and I thank my father for teaching me to lead a non-controversial life, and my mother for teaching me it's better to say nothing at all unless I have something good to say... and my father for teaching me there's always a compromise (nothing wrong with getting the short end of the stick when it comes to friends or anyone...) and my Mother for letting me know that a smile and a pleasant personality is what defines the person & not any 'personal' differences we may have share.

Dax that is so touching, a nice tribute to your parents. They must be or have been very nice people.

I second beigestonehill's compliment. This is the most non threatening and knowledgeable board I have ever seen. I have been on many different types of message boards looking for advice on various topics and there are always rude people passing judgement about something or another. I have posted several questions on here that have probably been answered several times all ready by the board experts. Every time I post here I always get well thought out and very helpful responses. This board has also helped to foster my addiction for conifers :). I read posts every day here!!!

I am Jon from Michigan, by the way. Larry Nau isn't on these forums as far as I know, but he's very involved in the ACS, and is also a pond fanatic. Feel free to shoot me an email anytime.

Just because I will pet the cats fur backwards over in the tree forum when I think someone needs to snap back to reality.... doesn't make me a bad person. ;-)

Yep, I tell it like it is myself.

I too thank the members of this forum. Learned quite a bit over the years.

Wish we still had the same partipation this year as we did say a year or two ago.

If I dropped into this forum as a newbie today asking about screening confiers I'd probably have exactly that, basic screening confiers. Instead I have a young beuatiful colleciton of rare and unusual conifers.

There was significant activity going on with pictures galore back then so it peaks your interest to explore more...kind of like what you see with the daylily and perennial forums.

I miss the pictures too. Where's firefightergardener Will?
I got into conifers because of this forum.
Otherwise I would probably have a row of arbs or hollies with a HD perennial bed in front.

they all went to facebook or twitter or some such..

i refuse to sign my life away to those places ...

so they play with their conifer porn in another venue ... thats where all the pix went ...

having teenagers.. and no real budget like i used to.. its not fun seeing all the newest and brightest.. and getting POd ...

besides.. sooner or later.. they all start looking the same ... to just about everyone but coniferjoy ...

i mean really .. i already have 5 or 6 blue short needled pines.. lol.. i am blanking on the name ... and 10 years later.. you couldnt tell them apart ... oh.. pinus parviflora ... if your my depended on it ... leaving me the conclusion.. that annual growth rate.. is what most of us are able to delineate ... forest trees.. versus dwarfs and minis ...

but i digress... you are welcome again ...

    ken

ps: yes.. whaas is our prime success ... lol .. but now he thinks he knows it all.. and at times is insufferable ... lol .. [i dont think we can communicate with out poking each other ... lol .. it took a while for both of us to understand that ... and now he is my soulmate ... crikey.. conifer wise... lol ...]

Actually Ken, I'm on Facebook, so I see those posts. But it is not the same experience as on the forum. I still miss those forum posts. What I also like about the forum is that it is searchable through Google and other search engines. You may end up getting inspired like I was when you might not know that you are looking for this type of inspiration (if that makes sense) and also find solutions to problems.
So those who post, thank you, and please keep posting. Hopefully people who left will come back from time to time.

I agree. Facebook is not the same as the old forums here. Too bad some of those who left don't come back, problem is the forums have not been too kind to many...with Ads, picture limits, ect... But I find it easy to overcome, Ad blocker...

Plus on facebook all my friends keep seeing me post wierd Latin words and keep asking what's wrong with me.. They don't understand the conifer obsession...

Haha sc77, totally understand that last part. I wish the conifer side could be kept private from our other side, but I am not aware of any such controls offered by FB.

Simple answer wannabe, fake profile. Just because they tell you that they uave the right to all your personal info, doesnt mean they DO. FB and others have so abused their users changing privacy settings etc, often flat out stealing, I will never give them or any like them the slightest shred of real info. GW has gone too far themselves with the ads etc, therefore I have them severely locked down, block their freaking ads, they dont even have a valid email address, and I do not post any part of my name on here. Only 10-20 peopeople have my real email address that Ive had for 13-14 years and it never gets spam. Point being is that you can take control, but have to do just that...... TAKE IT!
