Advice on moving large Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae

I have a Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Yellow Ribbon') that is about 8' tall and 3' wide that I'd like to move. It is too large for the patio corner near which it currently resides. I am putting in a new conifer garden in a sunnier location that is better suited for this plant. It would be fine with me to prune it back severely, if that would help with transplant shock, but I would feel badly if I killed the plant entirely.

Is this plant's root system so extensive that this is a foolish endeavor? Would I be better off just pruning it back to better fit in its current space?
