Haven't heard of it. When the RBGE multisite search doesn't find much, it must be really rare. Apparently there's one in a garden in Hungary.
I planted a small one of the nominal species back in spring, before this hot dry summer. I was surprised it pulled through w/o supplemental watering. It was in almost 100% shade, but about 15' from a gigantic, thirsty maple. (whose shade/screening it is one day intended to help replace, as the maple is long-term doomed by a poor trunk angles) Young conifers are, in general, tough compared to other plants. Even one from very wet forests in Japan that is thought to be especially drought sensitive.
Yes Thujopsis likes a moist climate. I received some cuttings of T dolabrata 'Elegans' from a guy in Hungary they rooted.I wonder if Zsolt knows about this cultivar?
