Ive had no problems in with Krugers Find in the sun
but it would be best in the shade. I wonder if its in the
USA yet? I know that there are some unusual Thujopsis
    cultivars in the USA.

Coniferjoy, my tree is about 30 years old and about 10 meters tall. It was the first tree I started from a cutting. It has lost the variegation it once had.

It's located in an area that gets no additional water in our dry summers so is growing slower than optimum. It also has competition from several Pseudotsuga menziesii that were planted before I owned the property. I am slowly removing most of them as the are a timber company (Weyerhauser) hybrid, called a 'Super Fir'. Bred for pulp. Worthless otherwise, in my opinion.

I would love to see photos of this tree in it's habitat. Where does it grow and what ages can it attain?

Euan, what's yellow on the 'Melbourne Gold'?
It looks like it was found in Australia as a yellow twig on a 'Nana'?

    Another one

    Thujopsis dolabrata 'Albovariegata'

  • coniferjoy

    Euan,

I ment to say that the 'Melbourne Gold' isn't yellow at all...

'Albovariegata' is the same as 'Variegata'.

    Edwin

Albovariegata grows at Windsor great park are you
saying its the same as variegata????? the cuttings
I received from Winsor great park look distinct
    from Variegata more regular variegation.The
Melbourne Gold will color up in the Summer. Many
conifers change color in the seasons.

  • coniferjoy

Yep, I'm telling you that the 'Variegata' and the 'Albovariegata' are the same.
I had both at my nursery and never saw any differences.
Probably the Windsor Great Park' named this one in this way because it's a white variegated one.
In my opinion 'Albovariegata' is a much better name then just 'Variegata'.

It's the same with Calocedrus decurrens 'Aureovariegata'.
The first name for this cultivar was just 'Variegata' but with this cultivar name it wasn't clear which colour the variegation was.
Later on it was changed in 'Aureovariegata' so it's clear for everyone that this one is a yellow variegated cultivar...
