I watered them by hoses slowly trickling in, for about 20 min ea we have sandy loam type soil the first 3 winters they got wrapped in burlap they got too big after that.

Good planting date! I would guess you didnt have to water them much. Did you use an auger on your tractor?

No I hand dug them all I don't have an auger, thats actually an old forklift i used to get the trees and materials there and take away the excess soil

Awesome! What's the estimated height and width? How far apart on center did you plant them? I planted mine in spring 2011 and they still have at least another 3-4 years before they block out my neighbor. They are out every day working there garden and my green giants couldn't grow fast enough.

I thought I may have planted mine to close, but yours look pretty good growing into one another to create a solid barrier like that.

They are on average 12' -14' tall I planted them at 5' centers but I think in a warmer zone they would grow faster we are listed as Canadian zone 5a but in our particular micro-climate most plants for that zoning dont survive here so i get most plants for a zone 4 i dont know what that would translate to the U.S zones

Brickman, I've got some of these things in what is a solid Z4. Nothing seems to phase them. I've got much native Thuja occidentalis up there too. I do sometimes wonder if in time, new hybrids will be created due to this proximity!
