Spruce tree cut in error

Yard guys were told to cut a stink weed tree growing inside branches of 30 yr spruce and to trim the branches on the bottom about a foot, instead they cut my tree to about 3 ft tall. Does anyone know if this tree will continue to grow or is it a lost cause? I'm sick about it since it was a beautiful tree.

all trees releader ... but in this case.. i dont know if the result would be worth the wait ...

I'm a bit confused,,,they cut tree from bottom ,up 3ft ?
or from top down to 3 ft ? if latter ,,,it's toast
if former it'll be just fine
30yr spruce gotta be 25 to 35 ft,,,,,why would they leave 3 ft ?

1. Fire the yard guys
2. Seek restitution
3. Cut down the remaining 3 foot stump
4. Plant a new tree.

I'm with tsugajunkie.That is horrible and the yard men should be held accountable.An arborist can tell you the worth of the tree and than perhaps you could purchase one of similar maturity.The yard guys should have insurance for such.In my state if a logger takes a tree from your property without permission they are held accountable for three times it's worth.I am so sorry.
